where to find singles in the area? 06/27/09 by
A friend of mine in her late 30s - she is very smart, funny and great looking - recently got divorced and is now lookingto meet someone new. She says she is having a hard time actually finding single men in Arlington... it seems so hard, because most in this age group are married, right? How do yo know if a cute guy you meet on the street is looking, too? Where do you think she can best meet local singles, besides match.com etc? Where do they hang out? Thanks!

I have a friend that finds dates through the eharmony.com site. She's actually had fun with it. In fact, this is one of the site's "free" weekends where people can communicate without joining. For me, I haven't found that right one but it's nice communicating with some of those that respond during the free weekends.
I wish it were that easy! My husband's profession, well they don't wear rings. It wouldn't be safe. So lack of a ring wouldn't help anything.
Seems so much harder when you get beyond highschool and college dating doesn't it?
She just needs to find activities that she likes to do, ones that likely have guys involved as well (don't join a Scrapbooking club). You can do things like hike off of meetup.com, or join a local sports group... unless you want to walk down to Joe Sent Me at 9pm on a weeknight and troll for guys, its better to just do what you like and see who comes along with it. Having your friends with their eyes out is good too..
Generally, unless he's wearing a ring, the only way to know someone is looking is to go out with them..
I don't know of anything specific to singles in Arlington, but there is a place called 'The Singles Club' which is 18 Ridge St, Winchester, MA. There are other places down towards Boston too.
I haven't been on the singles scene for a very long time but I have two cousins who are now married, having met people on reputable dating sites. Both were previously divorced but are now very happy.
