Pet Portraits Craft 07/08/09 by
I saw this advertisement and immediately thought of my grandmother's painted portrait of her beloved poodle. After reading more into the ad, I realized this was not quite the same thing, but still might be fun.The Artbeat Creativity Store is offering customers the opportunity to come in and do their own impression of their pet, via; sand art or paints on a stretched canvas. To my disappointment I have realized this class was scheduled today July 8, Wed. 10a.m.-12noon. Does anyone know if they are going to do this every Wednesday or was it just for today? Thanks.

This is something that would be fun to do with the kids. My nephew and nieces have a dog and they would love to do something craft oriented involving their beloved pet. What a great idea for the summer!
I've always wanted an oil painting of my dog that died a number of years ago. All I've got now are photos but I would think that someone that is proficient at creating oil portraits could take a photo and create a piece of art!
What a great opportunity to create a wonderful keepsake of a beloved pet. I've had portraits of my dogs in the past but to do an impressionist style keepsake sounds interesting and fun. I think this would be a fun activity for kids itching to do something creative over the summer.
Oh I'm glad I didn't miss it after all. I would like to bring the kids in to try out the sand art. Tabitha, I am sorry to hear about your grandmother's pet, as well. What kind of pet was Angel?
Oh that is wonderful news. Thank you Artbeat for following up on this for us. I know that my grandmother has treasured her portrait of Angel for years and I believe it has helped ease her grief over her passing.
It's fun for all ages (and abilities), and you can do it any day this summer as well.
We also have an employee who takes commission for oil portraits of pets. Some of her work is on display at Artbeat, and it's quite beautiful!
That does sound like it could be fun. But, is it geared more toward a youth project or is it for the adults, too? I will be keeping my eye out to see if they are having it next week, since I missed this one.
Oh I hadn't heard about this either. However it is probably not a bad thing; I would really need to have someone else do the work because quite simply I don't have the talent.
