Kid's Sewing Camp 07/12/09 by
I don't know if they still have room or not, but I think this is a great idea. I didn't even realize we had a sewing school, but they are having a summer camp to teach kids to learn to sew. It is Laura's Sewing School on Broadway. The camp actually starts tomorrow; July 13 Mon-Fri, from 1:30-4:30. Only registered users can comment in discussion
Without meaning to be sexist, most younger boys just wouldn't do it-too much risk to their image. The younger ones maybe, but certainly once they get the idea of image into their heads, they won't be seen sewing.
Which is why, I think, that this kind of thing is so important. Its a chance for the kids to be exposed to something new without them having to broach it around their mates, might be good for some.
I wonder how popular this will actually prove to be. I know that unfortunately the youngsters in my family would have to be bullied or bribed into attending something like this. Its a shame, but if it doesn't involve computers now, few seem interested.
Well this is certainly something different. I doubt that many kids learn to sew nowadays and yet it is certainly a useful skill to have. Too few know how to so much as repair minor damage to clothing-yet it saves a great deal of money.
