eWaste Collection 07/15/09 by
This Saturday at Lexington High School there is a collection day for eWaste items. I have several things to dispose of, as normally these larger items are a bit of a pain and we have been trying to get rid of things and de-clutter for a while. This is a free event, free disposal for any who needs it and you don't need an appointment.

In addition to the event yesterday, Metech Recycling is offering to pick up "obsolete electronics" from government offices, schools and non-profit organizations through August 28. For any data concerns, Metech states that any hard drives and memory devices will be physically destroyed. This is a great opportunity for these places to also have eWaste items recycled. If anyone connected to one of these places is interested, the Metech website for more information is www.metechrecycling.com.
Computers are dangerous because of the mercury (and I think arsenic) and of course fridges and air con units often have refridgerants to deal with. All told, this kind of thing like they had today is just excellent.
Yeah, eWaste can be problematic. I have in the past given my computers to a friend who would recycle them-strip them down and use the parts to make slightly better machines to give to those who needed them.
eWaste is electronic waste, but in particular the kind of stuff that is related to the new, connected generation. Computers, tvs, the sort of thing that would pollute a landfill and that needs very specific and careful recycling.
This is a great way to get rid of items that normally would be difficult to get rid of. They'll take items such as televisions, computers, monitors, stereos, cell phones and many other items. Check out the event ad at www.town.arlington.ma.us for more of what they'll take but also what they won't take. Remember that there are usually long lines at these recycling events so plan ahead.
Forgive me, if I sound naive at the moment. I'll blame it do to the fact it is past my bedtime and I just can't sleep. So, I thought I would check in and see how it is going. Back to the point, though; what is eWaste? Is it separate than regular recyclables? Thanks.
