The Menotomy Minute Men - Arlington Town Day - Sept. 26 08/05/09 by
One of the things I enjoy about living in this part of the country is all the history that surrounds us. The Menotomy Minute Men, who are associated with the Arlington Historical Society, will be participating in Arlington Town Day on September 26th with living history demonstrations at the Jason Russell House. Aside from that, specifically, they participate in battle reenactments, parades, and musters. I've seen that adults and kids, alike, enjoy these reenactments. I think people have a real curiousity about how things were when people were fighting for our country right here in our very own country over 200 years ago. The Menotomy Minute Men represent people of Arlington all those years ago. Only registered users can comment in discussion
We have a family reunion that day but what we like to do with the kids is to go over and watch this reenactment. With it being Arlington Town Day, it's a perfect opportunity to interact with the kids and help them understand some of our country's rich history.
It's amazing to watch these reenactments. I think it's especially amazing to the children. To know how others lived before us and their struggles can only help us appreciate what we have now.
I love the reenactments, but what I wanted to comment on was the history. My ancestors came through the Boston area and I can't describe the awe and deep feeling I get whenever I'm there, walking where they walked. It's a tremendous sensation that really gets to me.
It would be fun to be a part of one of these reenactments someday but I will happily watch from the sidelines as I have in the past.
