Couldn't Sleep 08/28/09 by
Here it is the middle of the morning and I'm awake. We have a full Friday planned, but Jenny's got the insomnias! How do you cure your sleepless nights, other than getting on the computer to see what's new in our hometown?

Don't drink anything with caffeine past the afternoon and don't eat again after dinner. Surprisingly enough, warm milk does the trick, too. Don't heat the milk too much or it will scald and taste awful.

Thank you all for the comments. That's an interesting idea, Alex. I've never even thought of doing something like that, but I think I'm going to give it a try. I definitely need my sleep.

Here is something that works flawlessly... I learned it from a Yoga teacher:
Count your exhalations backwards, starting at 20. You will notice a slowing down of your breath, much deeper breathing... and that you may not reach 10 or even 5. I don't think I ever made it past 10 myself. (ok, so you do have to turn off that TV first)

Good luck!

Alex

I do what you do, Jenny. I get up and get online or do something around the house. I hate just tossing and turning; it's so pointless. I hope you got back to sleep okay.

I watch mindless television sure to make me sleep. Only problem is... I =
fall asleep on the couch, and wake with a stiff neck or aching back. =
It's a trade-off. Sometimes I just get up and do something productive, =
like chores. It all depends on how early I wake.
